Falcon above GUM 18
Falcon over GUM 18: The image shows a very small part of the huge GUM Nebula complex in the Southern Constellation of Vela. The emission nebula in the center is designated GUM 18 (RCW 35) and is one of the smaller emission nebulae among the many objects in this large Super Nova Remnant area.
I selected this part of the complex mainly for esthetical reasons. The beautiful shockfront, created by excited oxygen molecules, definitely looks like a bird of prey sailing gracefully above GUM 18. The image was mainly created by the use of H-alpha and [O3] narrow band filters.
