Belt Stars of Orion

The Belt Stars of Orion: Everyone looking at the constellation of Orion is immediately caught by the three bright stars forming the Belt of Orion. The three stars (from the left: Mintaka, Alnilam and Alnitak) are blue supergiants very close to the celestial equator. The image shows these stars and some beautiful deep sly objects in their neighbourhood. Close to Alnitak is the bright flame nebula and the famous Horse Head Nebula in the middle of an extended region of glowing hydrogen gas.

Also quite interesting are the very faint reflection nebulae around Alnilam and Mintaka, indicating huge amounts of gas and dust in this part of the sky.

This picture is the first light image taken with my new camera ASI 1600 to get some experience with a cooled CMOS-based astro camera.
