The Great Carina Nebula: This overwhelming Emission Nebula is surely the crown of the Carina Milky Way, if not of the whole Southern Sky. The central part of the nebula is located around the Keyhole Nebula and the Giant Star Eta Carinae in the center of the image. Eta Carinae, a sure Supernova candidate, and several young Open Clusters create with their strong UV radiation this three-fanned diverse nebula. One never gets tired to view the complex structures both in an image (see the Hi-Res version) or through a telescope.
This is an emission line image composed from more than four hours exposure with narrowband H-alpha and O[3] filters.
The image was selected as Astronomy Picture of the Day(APOD) .
