Eta Carinae - Center

Eta Carinae-Center: The central part of the extended Eta Carinae complex is here displayed in high resolution with a 20" Ritchey-Chretien telescope. It is a breath taking sight how the radiation from the giant binary star Eta Carinae(more than 100 times the size of the sun), a varying star and prominent Super Nova candidate, creates beautiful complex structures, including the Key Hole Nebula in the center. Several Open Clusters of young stars are also well resolved which also take part in exciting the surrounding gas to emit radiation,

The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
