Southern Cross

Southern Cross: The most prominent constellation in the southern sky consists of four beautifully colored stars in a dense star field, only interrupted by one of the largest dark nebulae: The Coal Sack. A huge cloud of dust obstructs most of the light of the stars behind it, thus creating the dark structures, which can be seen in this deep exposure image.
