Star Forming Region IC 348
Star Forming Region IC 348: Right in between the California Nebula and the Pleiades lies this star cradle in the constellation of Perseus about 1000 LY away. It consists of a nice reflection nebula and a cluster of about 400 young stars. The image shows these together with parts of the molecular cloud from which the stars were born.
The brightest star in the picture is Atik (Omicron Persei), a variable double star.
The image was taken at the observatory of IAS at Hakos Farm in Namibia.
