Centaurus

Centaurus: The Constellation of Centaurus is one of the most conspicuous of the Southern Skies as it contains the signature stars Alpha (Rigel Kentaurus) and Beta Centauri (Hadar), close to the lower rim of this image. The image shows not only the chain of stars of the constellation, but also the most prominent Deep Sky Objects contained in it.
At the right hand side the constellation of the Southern Cross with the dark Coal Sack is partly embedded into Centaurus.
At the far right the beautiful Running Chicken Nebula can be detected and in the center of the image Omega Centauri, the brightest Globular Cluster in the sky, as well as the wonderful galaxy Centaurus A.
