Merging Galaxies NGC 2207, IC 2163: These two Spiral Galaxies (NGC 2207 to the right) are in the process of merging into one big Elliptical Galaxy. The merger will probably be complete in about 1 billion years. The galaxies are in a distance of 80 mio LY in the constellation of Canis Major.
The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
