Bipolar Nebula NGC 6164/5
Bipolar Nebula NGC 6164: The star in the center of the image which generates this emission nebula is a blue Supergiant of approx. 40 solar masses throwing off gas which then in return is excited to glow by the stars intensive UV light. The strong magnetic fields associated with the rotating star create the twisted bipolar shape of the nebula.
The image was taken at the observatory of IAS at Hakos Farm in Namibia.
