Spiral Planetary Nebula: The spiral-like chaotic structure of this Planetary Nebula in the Southern constellation of Musca is somewhat unusual for these kind of objects. It is common understanding that the colorful structures are created in the final phase of a dying sun-like star, when the hydrogen in its core is burned out. While the core is shrinking to a White Dwarf the outer layers are expelled into space where they excite interstellar or previously shed matter to glow.
In this case there seems to go on some extraordinary fierce process, which is still under research.
The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
