
Veil Nebula (western part): This beautifully colored nebula is the western part of the Veil Nebula complex. The shock waves of the Super Nova explosion of a star several times the mass of our sun, 5000-8000 years ago, excite the interstellar gas to glow. The thin colorful slices of glowing hydrogen and oxygen gas can be observed, because we look onto them edge-on.
