Open Cluster M34

Open Cluster M34: This cluster of stars is middle-aged for astronomical standards, the estimate is about 180 Mio years. It is located in a distance of 1400 LY and extends appr. 14 LY. A few of the heavy stars have already turned into Red Giants having a yellow color.

Especially in the Hi-Res version a galaxy (UGC 2227 in 260 Mio LY) can be recognized in the upper left part of the image and also the blue shining Planetary Nebula (PK 144.3-15.5).
