Lagoon and Trifid Nebula:  These two Emission Nebulae are undoubtedly highlights of the Southern Sky. Hot young stars ionize the surrounding gas and thus make it glow red as emission nebulae or the light is reflected by the dust and gas clouds and so giving rise to blue white reflection nebulae. A combinatin of the two types can very well be studied at the Trifid Nebula (bottom left).
