Lunar Eclipse of 21 February 2008: This total Lunar Eclipse was the last one until 20 December 2010 and showed at my location good visibility throughout its entire duration.
The image shows four phases of the event: The upper two images the approach to totality, the totality (left of the lower row images) and the last one shortly after totality.

The reddish hue during and close to totality comes from sunlight which is diffracted by earth`s atmosphere. Since the blue part of the sunlight (shorter wavelength) is stronger diffracted, more red light illuminates the moon`s surface.
