Central Carina: The central part of the constellation of Carina or the Ship´s Keel is one of the densest star areas of our Milky Way. The unsurpassed highlight in there is the vast Eta Carina Nebula.
This wide-field image shows this nebula complex in its full extent. In addition to this some other highlights of the southern sky are displayed. Among them two outstanding open clusters: NGC 3532 in the lower left and IC 2602 at the right. IC 2602 is also called the Southern Pleiades, because it resemles the Pleiades (Seven Sisters) in the northern sky very much.
