Rho Ophiuchi-Antares Region

Rho Ophiuchi-Antares Region: No human painter could do better than nature in this probably most colorful area of the sky with a variety of emission, reflection and absorption nebulae and a number of interesting objects. Dominating in the right lower corner is the red super giant Antares, several 100 times the diameter of our sun. The multiple star system on the left is Rho Ophiuchi with the big blue reflection nebula. An enlarged picture of this part can be seen here.Three globular clusters can also be detected in this three image mosaic: M4 in the upper right, NGC 6144 in the 11 o´clock position from Antares and M80 in the upper left corner.
