Pinwheel Galaxy

Pinwheel Galaxy: This great galaxy is for me one of the highlights of the northern sky. In a distance of 22 Mio LY it displays for us in a stunning face-on view all the features of a spiral galaxy: Wide spread arms with many star generating areas and structured dust lanes.

In this wide field view three other galaxies can be recognized:NGC 5474 in the lower left corner, NGC 5477 as a dim disc not far from the center and bright NGC 5473 at the right center rim.

Here you find a cropped version of this image.
