Shortly After Full Moon

Shortly after Full Moon: At or close to full moon visual observation is difficult due to the high brightness and low contrast. Here digital photography shows its strength: Details are well visible, something hardly possible in visual observation.

This image showing the moon at an age of 16.9 days gives a good overview of all the main features of our moon: dark-grey maria, ridges and valleys and of course hundreds of impact craters.

To explore even deeper check out the Hi-res version.
