Thackerey Globules in IC 2944

Thackerey Globules in IC 2944: The image displays in fine details the "body" of the Running Chicken Nebula. In the center you see the Open Cluster IC 2948, which generates by its intensive radiation most of the emission nebula. The dark spots in various parts of the image are the so called Thackeray Globules, in which very likely new stars are born, which are not yet visible, because they are still enshrouded in dust clouds obstructing the light.

In the Hi-Res version of the image they can be studied in detail.

The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
