Grus Quartet of Galaxies
Grus Quartet of Galaxies: These four spiral galaxies in the southern constellation of Grus are in a distance of about 50 million LY. They are interacting galaxies, which means that they are gravitationally bound to each other and exchanging matter.
From left to right their designations are NGC 7599, 7590, 7582 and 7552.
Several other galaxies can be detected in the image( see the High Res version) but they are much further away and not related to this quartet of galaxies.
The image was taken at the observatory of IAS at Hakos Farm in Namibia.
