Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744
Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744: This beautiful barred Spiral Galaxy in the Southern constellation of Pavo is as similar a galaxy to our Milky Way as it can probably get. NGC 6744 is in a distance of about 30 Mio LY. The irregular galaxy in the lower right of the image is a satellite galaxy to NGC 6744, very similar to the Large Magellanic cloud to Milky Way.
The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
