Zodiacal Light

Zodiacal Light: In the evening shortly after sunset or in the early morning the Zodiacal Light can be observed provided the sky is very dark and clear. It is generated by sunlight which is scattered and reflected from dust clouds lying in the ecliptic plane (the zodiac) of our solar system.
The angle to the horizon depends on the time of the year and the location´s latitude.

The image was taken at the observatory of IAS at Hakos Farm in Namibia. One of the domes of the IAS observatory is visible on the image.
