Galactic Nebula IC 417: West of the Messier cluster M 36 in Auriga two very faint objects, both combinations of star clusters and emission nebula, can be found.The image shows on the right hand side the extended complex of IC 417 and to the lower left the more compact NGC 1931. Both Open Star Clusters are young, still embedded in glowing hydrogen gas, and in a distance of about 10000 LY.
Both objects are also referred to as the Spider and the Fly
The image was taken at the IAS astronomical site at the Hakos farm in Namibia.
