Partial Solar Eclipse 26.1.2009: A Partial Solar Eclipse could be observed in the southern part of Africa on 26 January 2009. At my location in Somerset West near Cape Town the eclipse of the sun by the moon started about 7.00 and ended at approx. 9.30 local time with wonderful clear weather. At the maximum darkening about 60% of the surface of the sun was covered by the moon. This could be well felt by a slight chill of the air.
The image shows from upper left to lower right six phases of this event.
