Between Deneb and Sadr: The area between the bright stars Deneb (Alpha Cygni) and Sadr (Gamma Cygni) belongs to the brightest parts of our Milky Way and can be observed in a dark cloudless night with the nakedc eye. It is covered with a dense star background and numerous emission and dark nebulae. Most of these cannot be seen with the naked eye.
This image makes them all visible in a wide-angle view. It was composed from frames taken with three different narrow band filters letting pass only the H-alpha line of hydrogen, the [OIII] line of oxygen and the [SII] line uf sulfur. The composition was done using the socalled Hubble palette for arranging the colors.
The star Deneb you can see in the lower left part of the picture. On the upper right hand side the vast nebular skyscape around Sadr is displayed. The most prominent nebula in there is the Butterfly Nebula (IC 1318).
